From my experience, I would always look for the popular teachers at my college. Even though the specific teacher I wanted classes was already filled, I would still wait another semester to enroll into that class. Other teachers were not as popular, but I still preferred to wait until the popular teachers were available. The ‘Business Model’ Is the Wrong Model article talks about how certain students are demand for accountability in higher education. Peter Katopes stated that the education model is more appropriate than the business model when teaching. He believes that the business model is only for a fixed purpose which is to generate a profit. In higher education the article Peter Katopes mention that the business model eliminates other worthy academics programs because it was not as popular as other programs. Since the business model focuses on the student’s satisfaction and not the teachers teaching abilities it gives the students more power on their opinions of the teacher. For example, a teacher may be a good teacher at teaching in class but since the student does not pay attention and failed, the student may give a poor evaluation about the teacher. This would not be fair to the teacher because it was not the teacher’s fault it was the students for not paying attention in class when they are supposed to be …show more content…
He states how the universities run off of a “Business Model”. That is because a University is a business, it is a business which focuses on raising and preparing the next generation going into the work force. Due to this colleges and universities need to have evaluations of their students, primarily because the Dean of the college or university is not omnipresent. It was not given to them, like it is in other countries. The students paid to attend the college or university, they need and should know which professors would help them achieve their goals according to their way of learning. This is why student evaluations are important, it shows which professors are underachieving and which are performing exponentially. A student getting bad grades doesn 't just mean that the student failed, but the teacher failed as well. Even if a student with poor grades attends college after high school they will most likely struggle with the same problems they had in high school which is mainly due to poor teaching. This seems like a fair accusation towards teachers as "Colleges and universities are businesses" (Nemko 2) which can hurt students more than they think. This doesn 't just harm liberal arts education, but college education as a whole. With budget issues, teachers are either used to do their own research in education or classes are taught in large unorganized groups of students.…

You have to pick a major, take class after class, write paper after paper and work on dreaded group projects (Lucas).” Yes, this might show managers or directors just how well he/she is able to cope with the work given the degree that he/she majored in but what about another person that has some experience in the field but doesn’t have a college degree because he couldn’t go to college for financial reasons? I’ve seen many people turned down by managers because they didn’t go to college and it goes to show how bias we have become in today’s society. This is how colleges have forced the issue into jobs whom require a college degree. Is that fair in today’s…

Students are expected to pay large amounts of money and not treat the college experience as though it is service that they are entitled to. As mentioned above and in Perry’s article students are being met with teachers and faculty that are pushed to focus on students as customers and not strictly students.
