Everyone seems to have a differing opinion regarding the education system and strong beliefs on the best way to fix it. Some may argue that school is too structured and rigid which does not allow students to develop proper critical thinking skills needed to succeed in today’s world. Others may argue that school is too fluid and students are not interested deep understand of subjects. They would rather do just enough to get by and are not willing to learn with an open mind. This seems to be the case of Freire and Edmundson, one believes education should be fluid and ever changing to the students’ needs while the other believes schools have gone too far to cater to the students’ needs. Instead, students are simply memorizing facts just long enough to pass a test then they move along. The current educational system does not embrace the individuals or individuality which leads to students going through the motions when it comes to their education. Making students sit in classes as the teacher recites information for them to memorize is taking all personality out of the classroom. This kind of mentality leads to a society that casts extraordinary individuals aside as they do not conform to the rest of society. It is Freires belief that educators should learn from students and education should be ever changing, as the world is ever changing (Freire, …show more content…
If this were started at a younger age, students would have a much deeper understanding of the world around them and would truly be learning subjects as opposed to just memorizing them. This would translate directly to the college years and college students would continue their deep thinking and understanding of the world. They would be able to think outside the box and would also be more open minded, improving the outlook of our society in the future.

    Firstly, schools eliminate qualities that makes every student unique by “dulling” their minds and by in some cases putting students under dress codes that are too strict.     In his arguments, Ungar points out that while many believe a “liberal-arts degree is a luxury,” it is not (227). It may indeed be true that pursuing such a degree is more expensive and that families are struggling financially, but Ungar argues that it “a better investment” as it teaches the students how to communicate in an effective way and how to be critical thinkers which allows for them to be “innovative and creative” (227-228).
