Every semester I ask myself the same three questions and the longer I have been pursuing post secondary the more I think about the costs of post-secondary in comparison to the benefits of my degree. I work part time at Bed Bath and Beyond to help my parents pay rent and keep food on the table so every time I look at class registration I always artistically stack my classes like Greek columns to grab as many hours as I can at work. My father always says that you can’t do anything without money and it’s the truth you can’t, and it shames me because the academic route I decided to take isn’t known for the Steve Jobs of the world but rather the eco-terrorists and political upstarts. Public policy has always been my passion because of the social…

Some aspects of education has changed, whereas, some have not. I feel as if this is something that needs to be seriously addressed and solved. Education should be something that reaches the depths of souls and minds for children to expand their knowledge, uniqueness, and potential. Albert Einstein said it himself, “Everyone is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.”…

In this paper, I argue that neo-liberal policies effect post-secondary education in Canada. I determine what the barriers are and how we can overcome them. I will look at the rise of tuition, disability and cultural differences to see if they aid as a barrier. Post-Secondary education in Canada has become very demanding the last couple of years. Many students want to pursue careers and get an education that helps them in the future, from a neoliberalist approach young people have to “chase credentials” to gain security in future education (Lakes & Carter, 2011).…

Canada 's current public education system is both flawed and lacking. Students are likely to focus more in a classroom with people of the same gender and age, as they are less prone to be distracted. From a first-hand experience with the baby boomer generation, millennia’s are growing up with the idea that if one goes to school, tries hard, and get good grades; one will graduate, go on to post-secondary and, ultimately be successful (“Rethinking Education”). If one does not desire to put the time and effort into school, then one will likely have the constant, unrelenting image of a failure in the back of his/her mind. There are various examples of children failing subjects every year, but the education system has been reluctant to change, to…

We felt as though we were growing up. We were ready to start the first day of the rest of our adult life only to find ourselves in the next round of education, college. Why continue going to school if we had already accomplished so much? It has been found time and time again that those who have higher levels of education are more probable to find employment and get higher earnings.…

It is shown that on average that people who go to college make more money than people that stopped their education after high school. This is supported by a quote from Should Everyone Go to College? by Stephanie Owen and Isabel Sawhill which says, “Hamilton Project research shows that 23- to 25-year-olds with bachelor’s degrees make $12,000 more than high school graduates but by the age 50, the gap has grown to $46,500” (Owen and Sawhill, 211). This quote shows that on average people when people decide to make an investment in their education, they are seeing that they are making more money than if they were to stop their education after they gained their high school diploma. Now making more money when you have a college degree is not always the case, there is still a good chance that you will have better job opportunities by having the…

It seems as if there are more jobs for those with a lower education than for those who have a bachelor’s degree. However, it is stated that, “In 2007 people with a bachelor 's degree earned an average $57,181, or 63 percent more than those with some college or an associate 's degree and 83 percent more than those with only a high-school diploma” (Billitteri). Although there may be more jobs that require little education, the amount of money made is significantly less. In addition, a good number of high paying jobs require at least an associate’s degree.…
