Education is a human right. We spend years acquiring knowledge and life skills. I will dedicate eighteen years of my life throughout elementary, secondary, post-secondary and maybe graduate school. This amount of time dedicated to educating myself places me in a better position. When looking for a good job and become a productive member of society. Our teachers, instructors, and professors are important throughout this process. In truth, when I walked into my geometry class as a freshman I was terrified because of multiple reasons. I knew my performance in geometry class, as well as my other high school classes, would determine if I would receive an acceptance letter in my mailbox or an email containing a rejection letter. I knew what was to be done, I considered myself and adult I had planned my whole life the night before day one of high school. But the man, Mr. Van der Hugh pulled me after class and gave me what I consider the best piece of advice which was “Chill out”.

The best relationship I formed with a teacher was with Mr. Van der Hugh because he supported his students in the classroom as well as during extra-curricular activities. He understands what most teachers don’t want too. A friend of mine who attends Syracuse would agree, his test grades were lower and his class attendance was slim, bringing him slight criticism from teachers but Van der Hugh never judged him. He said individuals have different talents and would not force my friend back into the classroom when he walked out. Instead, he would attend every single basketball game he played in, bringing his family which comprised of his wife and daughter along. Even though he just attended three of my soccer games, I was grateful and viewed it economic terms. Basketball was more popular so it attracted
