In the United States, Americans often talk about how important it is to have an education. Without having a high school diploma in the United States, adults would not have the option to enter in the workforce easily, enroll in college, or enlist in the Army. Many adolescents in different locations of the world do not get to choose what they want to do in the future. Some students in different countries have to earn their high school diplomas by passing numerous tests. There some students in the world that have to take an examination before they enter into high school. If student enter into a good high school, it can lead them to have a better life for themselves. Iranian schools operate from Saturday to Thursday and have 200 days of school (Kayamb, 2004). In North Carolina, there is one hundred eighty days of school that operates from Monday to Friday. North Carolina usually starts on the second week of August to December and then we have a break in December which is end of the first semester of the school year. Students of Iran start in September to January which is the first term of their school year. Pupils of North Carolina start back to school during the first week of January (ncpublicschools.org, 2013). Iranian school operates from February to June in the second term. They do not have school on their holidays. On a school day in Iran students start school from seven thirty in the morning till one p.m. A usual school day in North Carolina starts from eight thirty in the morning and end at three thirty in the …show more content…
In the country of Iran, students have to entrance exam called the KonKur (Kaymab, 2004). Parents pressure their children because it can determine what kind of future if they can get in a public university in Iran. If the student does not do well on the entrance exam it is all over for them to get a better life. North Carolina universities requires teenagers to take SATs or the ACT’s if they want to go straight to a four year college. This determines if students are ready to go to a university after graduating from high school. If they don’t score well on the SAT’s, they might have to enter in a community college. The subjects tested in Iran are human sciences, fine arts, mathematics, and foreign languages. Fine arts is not a subject that you are not tested on the Sat’s. SAT’s test students on Math, Critical Reading, and Writing. ACT’s subjects are Science, Math, Reading and Writing. Another test that some high schoolers take is the Advanced Placement exams. AP(Advanced Placement exams determine if they can get college credit through a class in high school. Iran does not have any AP exams. Iran has more subjects to study for the entrance exam than the resident of North Carolina. These examinations can determine what one can do and are
