Although I had heard a bit about the methods of development in writing, I was never been taught what it meant. Furthermore, no one taught me, the anatomy of an argument, how to support an argument, Aristotle 's three appeals, how to quote accurately, how to use signal phrases, how to integrate sources, how to create a Works Cited Page, and what a research-based proposal argument is, and my personal favorite, logical fallacies.
Before taking English Comp, I never really put much thought into how an argument was constructed, or what made it either effective or ineffective. During this semester, I have learned that it is possible to make a very persuasive argument by utilizing the correct appeals, ethos or the ethical appeal, pathos or the emotional appeal, and logos or the logical appeal. Due to your class, I now know one must make an explicit and well-developed claim, to clarify your assertions define the terms within your claim, offer supporting evidence, establish authority, use pathos very wisely, and know your target
