As adults, women in Athens had little freedom, although their specific job was to take care of the young and older children. As adults, in Sparta women did everything mainly because their husbands were off at war. An Athenian women was expected to be a wife-mother-daughter for her family and to serve her family to all extensions. The same was expected of a Spartan women. Qualities of being a good Spartan wife was being smart, pretty, and being good with kids. Qualities of being a good Spartan wife was being very healthy, strong and wealthy. In Athens girls and women were NOT in charge of anything except children, excluding being able to vote and taking care of important matters. Although in Sparta, women ran all things like households and plantations. Athenian women served her husband, and was responsible for little to nothing. Spartan women served their husband, and ran mostly everything. Citizens in Athens were granted extra rights and they HAD participate in politics. Equals in Sparta were granted extra and extended right and they were allowed to participate in politics they didn’t HAVE to.
