Education And Literacy In Sandra Cisneros Straw Into Gold

What impact does education and literacy really have in your life? Do you need it to become someone in life? How will it follow you throughout your whole life? To make literacy part of your life you need to put hard work into your education. Education is just as important as literacy. Literacy is something that “can save your life” (Alexie 136), as Sherman Alexie would say, something that makes you feel “truly free” (X 125), as Malcolm X would express it, and something that can change your way of life entirely as Sandra Cisneros tried to tell us in her story, Straw Into Gold. Education is something that everyone needs to face the world. And teacher many times try to “wake students up to the realities of the world” (Bissinger 121), as Dorothy Fowler tried doing in Friday Night Lights. …show more content…
Just as Sherman Alexie would relate to that point Jane Franks made in Friday night lights. Because when he was teaching other students to love books as much as he did, many students had “The pages of their notebooks empty...they refused and resisted” (Alexie 136). They didn't seem to care. Just like Sandra Cisneros, she didn't like school, “I wasn't a very bright student. I didn't much like school…” (Cisneros 107). But on the other hand as Malcolm X would see it he didn't care of where he was, he still managed to learn even if he saw “that the best thing he could do was get a hold of a dictionary to study” (X 124). He didn't let anything stop him and that's the same thing kids today should do. Not care what situation they stand
