Education plays an important role in everyone’s life. Many people will spend more than fifteen years in school to gain the qualifications needed to practice in his/her desired field. The first time someone is introduced to formal education is in school. Schools lay the foundation of a person’s development. Education provides people with knowledge about the world, sets a path for a good career, and builds character. Without education people would not be able to communicate, read, write, or perform jobs accurately. Education also teaches people about the world they live in and its history. No tuition is charged to attend a public high school and books are free. The only costs to consider for a public high school are supplies needed, meal money, and fees for extra curricular activities. On average school supplies for one year will cost around one hundred dollars. Therefore, all four years of high school will cost you, on average, four hundred dollars. The meals provided at a public high school are breakfast and lunch. Lunch will cost around two dollars and thirty-five cents and breakfast will cost one dollar. A complete day’s worth of food will cost three dollars and thirty-five cents per person. There are normally one hundred and eighty days in a high school year calendar. If a person ate lunch and breakfast every day, meals at school would cost six hundred and three dollars per year. For all four years of high school a person would spent two thousand four hundred and twelve dollars on average for meals. Fees for extra curricular activities will vary depending on what a person is involved in.
The cost of college is much more drastic than the cost of high school. In college there is tuition and you can not just attend the college for free like you can high school. The estimated total cost of college for the 2015-16 school year in the state of Georgia is thirty-one thousand one hundred and forty dollars. Most learning takes place outside of the classroom and the materials are presented at a much faster pace than they are presented in high school. For every hour in class at college a student should spent two hours outside of the class studying and doing assignments. In college a student can never depend on last minuet test preparation. Just listening in a college class is never enough. Outside of the classroom, a student will be assigned substantial amounts of reading and writing that will not be directly addressed in class. its up to the student to read and understand the materials. College classes go much more in depth and are require much more effort to
