In America, education is held to a high standard. Therefore, since America holds it to a high standard we are funded by our local taxpayers. Education and funding is probably one of the most taxed things in America. As seen in Freedom Writers, which takes place in a urban area in Los Angeles, Mrs. Erin Gruwell did not have the proper funding to give the proper education to her freshman students. The resources that she needed was not provided to her even if they did have some resources. If teachers come to work to teach, then why cant they get the proper education and funding whether their in an urban area or surbanian area? I will explain and support this by using logos, pathos, and ethos.

The emotion comes from the stories and experiences that are told when Mrs. Erin Gruwell reads there journals. For example, Brandy’s story “In every war, there is an enemy. I watched my mother being half beaten to death and watched as blood and tears streamed down her face. I felt useless and scared and furious at the same time. I felt useless and scared and furious at the same time”. Even Marcus story, “Clive was my boy. He had my back plenty of times. We was like one fist, me and him, one army. - That 's heavy. - Yeah. That 's the real sh- right here. Nobody 'll jump us now. But we got to practice 'cause this, this got power. You shoot it, it.. I sat there till the police came. But when they come, all they see is a dead body, a gun and a nigga.” These stories are heartfelt and scary at the same time. These students walked out their doors everyday and didn’t even know if they would make it back home. Sure, half of these students might not care about there education but what about the other half? The other half cares. They want to graduate and and go on to college and get good jobs. Education and funding should not be determined on the discretion of race, gender, or religion.
