Laura Cereta was one of the greatest female writers during fifteenth-century Italy, her work moved others and even made men question whether it was actually hers or not. Cereta, having been a woman during this time, didn't have many rights’ along with every other woman. They were not given the education that they necessarily yearned for. A women in Cereta’s position would not have been provided with a scholarly education but rather one of domestics and culture. Considering she isn't receiving the education she desires, she states in one of her Letters, “For knowledge is not given as a gift, but [is gained] with diligence.” When Cereta mentions diligence, she often refers to the efforts one may make in order to achieve the level of excellence
