Magnolia West Vs Ischool High School Essay

In the small town of Magnolia, Texas there are many different choices on where you can send your teen to high school. Two of those choices being iSchool High, a non traditional semi public charter school, and Magnolia West, a traditional public high school. The structure of education and academic differences between iSchool High and Magnolia West are profoundly diverse. Comparing the two facilities raises some intriguing questions. By sending your teen to Magnolia West, could it be holding them back academically? Is iSchool High too much freedom for a young adult? In today’s world is traditional high school education still the way to go? One of the major differences between these two education structures is the pace at which the student learns curriculum. At iSchool High students have the freedom to take college classes through the Lone Star college system at no cost to the students what so ever. The students of iSchool High are able to do this because the school is conveniently located on the Lone Star campus, therefore the students sign out of there high school and walk across campus to attend their college classes. Compare this to Magnolia West where the students have the opportunity to take AP classes taught by a high school teacher at the high school campus. Students can gain college credits this way but they do not gain college experience or a true understanding of the workload involved in full credit classes. At Magnolia West students are also required to pay for their AP test at the end of the year. This test is what determines if the student will or will not get the credit for the class.
