Self-Reflection Paper EDUC 420 has opened a door to a world of teaching that I have never knew. It has shown me how important it is to include informational texts in the classroom. I have learned that by allowing my students to have access to different kinds of texts, I am opening a whole new world for them. Throughout this paper I will share what I have learned about designing good lessons in the form of gradual release. I will share my favorite method to teaching vocabulary to students and what I have learned when it comes to teaching vocabulary. I will talk about selecting quality text books for my classrooms and how by selecting quality text books leads to book clubs and why they are important to include.
Instructional Design Dr. Friesen has talked about designing instruction with informational text and how important it is. When we started designing out unit plans, we had to look at the standards. Not just or content standards but also the reading standards. Every unit needs standards in order to drive it. When it comes to the factors to think about when planning classroom instruction they are as followed: standards, assessment, essential questions, transfer goals, acquisition of knowledge and skills, how to get our students to the making meaning stage, and reflection. We first had to find a group of people who we worked well with. We then had to discuss the time and place we wanted to meet and sign the document. We also had to figure out the different genres we had to read and which order we were going to read them. We started meeting and along the way we got better. We starting discussing more about how we would use it in the classroom, or if we would even use it in the classroom. We talked about the text features of the books that we either liked or disliked. We also decided to take the first fifteen to half hour taking about the genres and what to look
