The student will employ methods for pre-reading schema activation, guided silent reading, and post-reading schema building. MoSPE 1 I am able to employ methods for pre-reading schema activation, guided silent reading, and post reading schema building because of the activities I learned to perform and the ideas I read about that can help me in the future. Post reading schema building can be employed by having the students perform a model comprehension strategy. This would determine if the child comprehended the text or not. There are multiple activities that I could use in my classroom for pre-reading schema activation. I could have each child look at the cover and title of a given

I believe vocabulary and concept development are extremely important to have within every classroom. As an elementary school teacher, vocabulary will be discussed and referred back to multiple times throughout the day. Concept development can be taught in multiple ways such as, learning and practicing meanings of words, punctuation, and the common subject areas. This is vital in every classroom, if a child does not understand the concept of a word, sentence, or situation they will never understand why it is useful.

The student will identify principles and methods for meeting the needs of all students in the content area classrooms. MoSPE 1

This is important because there is a wide range of variety and diversity throughout every school. This variety and diversity includes different races, religions, learning styles, economical status’, cultures, behavior types, etc. Each of these factors are important to keep in mind while you construct a lesson for your classroom. Each of these differences can be met by widening your lessons and discussing these differences rather than ignoring them. Students’ are top priority as a teacher, so recognizing their needs and assisting them in any way possible is necessary.

The student will demonstrate knowledge of instructional frameworks for reading and writing-based instruction. MoSPE

Throughout the course of this semester, taking TCF 201 has taught me about, even though I come to the conclusion that going in this direction of actually being a filmmaker is not for me, in the end. However, it did teach me a great deal. I never knew how much work could go into producing and directing your own work, I mean I had a general idea, but nothing to this magnitude of the amount of work that it takes, plus the hours of sleep that I have lost took a toll on me as well. But it was all worth it.…

Part 1: College is a great place to meet new people of all different cultures. In fact, one experience I had with an individual of another culture took place at college. During my freshman year at Towson University, I enrolled in a Biology lecture with over 150 students and I happened to sit next to, Bella, a girl who was from Italy. As the semester went on, I got to know her better and learned that she was studying abroad for a semester. Even though she spoke English fluently, she had a very strong accent and I later learned that her native language was Italian.…

In a guided self-assessment of study habits and strategies, ED 3100 students have been challenged to embark on a journey of self-exploration in an effort to better understand our own learning processes, as well as determine how different methods of studying and learning may affect our overall success. Dr. Demars (2015) explains that exploration and knowledge of our own techniques and learning strategies will then empower us, as future educators, to facilitate the same attributes in our students. She emphasizes that the better we (as teachers) understand our own learning processes, the better we can understand those of our students, and consequently help them self-assess to achieve a better understanding of their own learning. Although this exploration has raised many questions for me, there were key themes that stood out amongst others. By constructing an unbiased system of measurement, I am experimenting with deliberate and strategic changes to my study habits that are explicitly designed to address and correct weaknesses in my current study habits that I will track over a period of four weeks.…

This portfolio is a representation of the observations completed for the class M464 – Methods of Teaching Reading taught by Dr. Hope Smith Davis. These observations have been conducted and recorded by Joshua Lindsey, a teacher candidate at Indiana University South Bend during the spring semester of 2017. These observations give prospective teachers a chance to be immersed in a content-area classroom and to witness day-to-day operations within the secondary classroom as they occur. While these observations were sparse (one class period a week), teacher candidates were able to observe the same classroom and the same group of students which gave a sense of fluidity when it came to viewing the evolution of a particular classroom during a seven-week…

Chapter eight highlights the importance of student’s prior knowledge, purposes of reading, and provides strategies to be used before, during, and after reading. Students must learn reading comprehension because without it reading does not provide the reader with any information. As a future educator, I will teach reading comprehension so I can help my students develop the knowledge, abilities, and experiences to become enthusiastic readers. Activating and using background knowledge is important to reading comprehension. I agree with the author that if readers have not been exposed to a writer’s language patterns, or to the objects and theories the writer discusses, then the students’ comprehension is incomplete.…

For strategy section V, I selected the strategy microelection because I believed this would best benefit Sophia because it is helpful when students are required to read long texts that contain significant amount of new information. Since Sophia is so advanced in the EL program, I believed that choosing strategies such as microelection would best benefit her in the classroom. This strategy highlights the ability to find key words in individual sentences, which students need to have when finding the main idea in a longer reading passage. 3. Before implementing this strategy into my lesson, I would explain the importance of understanding the meanings of significant words in a sentence in order to understand the sentence as a whole.…

Each day is a new learning day, whether is professional or personal we end the day with a new reflection of our learning. Based on this, teaching beginning literacy learners requires major part of our day. The goal is that by the end of the school year those beginning literacy learners succeed and reach to the establish grade level by the state. Therefore, as an educator I need to be in constant movement, learning new strategies to help them succeed in each lesson. During Mr. Recio’s (Laureate Education, 2014a) interaction with his learners, it clearly can be seen how the exchange of oral language provides the learners vocabulary to increase their knowledge.…

For education to be effective, it must be culturally responsive. All students learn differently. Cheesman & De Pry (2010) identified how functional assessments might determine that a student engages in disruptive behavior during reading to escape or avoid a non-preferred activity. If the students are not learning, successful education is not taken place. When delivered with a purpose, culturally responsive education will improve cultural performances.…
