Edna Escamill Earthy Imagery

Decent Essays
Edna Escamill uses earthy and heavenly imagery throughout the story. One of the heavenly imagery the author uses is when the mass is taking longer than it should be and seeing the priest at the altar, “There were four Fathers at the altar with him dressed in their gold robes.” The image is powerful and shiny. This relates to the topic because the amount of glorified being and the attire they wear seems like heaven itself, an illusion of hope of what's to come. An earthy imagery the poet uses is when the boys are trying to get the bread, “They were filthy from the hot sun and the dessert remolinos that showered them with dust more than once…” The image is dirty and itchy. The boys being so eager and determined of what they desire no matter how

In the narrative poem ¨Oranges¨ by Gary Soto, he uses a lot of different types of figurative language like similes, personification, and imagery to ¨spice up¨ hs writing. I really like what he does with the different types of figurative language, and I think that if he didn't put any figurative language it wouldn't be as good as with figurative language. In the first stanza he uses imagery to explain how the girl looked as she came out of her house. He could have easily just said she looked good or great as she exited her home…

Li-Young Lee’s “A Hymn to Childhood” flashes back to the Cultural Revolution in the People’s Republic of China, which took place from 1966 to 1976. During this time, the Chinese Communist Party Chairman Mao Zedong was losing influence because of his failed policy, the Great Leap Forward, and so he wanted to reaffirm his power by starting a sociopolitical movement to eliminate his adversaries and other revisionists. Li-Young Lee infuses this past by including himself as the speaker who narrates his childhood. While the speaker recalls his childhood with images of fear, oppression, and pain, he also remembers it as a period of hope and innocence. The first stanza focuses on the theme of fear.…

In a way it is a picture of Gatsby’s love for Daisy. A Rose for Emily has a scene that is reminiscent of this one. It says “SHE WAS SICK for a long time. When we saw her again, her hair was cut short, making her look like a girl, with a vague resemblance to those angels in colored church windows--sort of tragic and serene.” When Emily was seen again by this writer of the short story, she is similar in appearance to who she was before the tragedy, but in actuality, she was a very different person, a person who had become twisted by the times, and a person who was so caught up in her past love that she was not able to let it go.…

This city is portrayed as almost impossible to travel to but is widely spoke about and envisioned by many. Eldorado to me in the story showed how if you were not greedy you could live in happiness and enjoy the riches. This did a fantastic job illustrating how man was never satisfied and always wanted more. Candide would not rest because he felt he needed to go back for Cunegonde and wound up losing almost…

Marie Therese Colimon is a female poem writer who wrote “Encounter.” In this poem she uses the literary element imagery to discuss how an individual, preferably a woman is acting when she runs into someone they knew very closely and she neglects to tell the other individual how she truly feels internally. The form of imagery that is being represented by the author is used to express the emotional and complicated role of a female. For example, in the poem Marie portrays a conversation to show the imagery of gender roles of a female being caring, vulnerable, and emotional. One quote that represents the gender role of social outlook and imagery is “ Listen to that tune from the house opposite, then we would each other go off across the city, carrying in our hearts, full with silent sobs.”…

Second, the poem called There Is a Garden in Her Face, written by Thomas Campion, describes the perspective of love, based on external beauty. The male reciter in the poem discusses how magnificent the woman is, based on her glorious face. To make the readers understand his visual perception, he uses plenty of metaphors, similes, and symbolism to describe the woman in the most extraordinary way possible. Examples of these figures of speech include that the female’s face can compare with a garden with plenty of sweet fruits. When people plant gardens, it can represent nature appreciation and well as the respect for the purity and quality of fresh abundance of food.…
