Edmund Cartwright was born on April 24, 1743, a the son of a landowner. He attended Oxford University and began his career in the church as a prebendary of Lincoln Cathedral in 1786. Cartwright visited Richard Arkwright cotton-spinning mills in 1784. He was inspired and wanted to make a new machine for cotton-spinning. He invented the first power loom in 1785. His factory was only a testing site for new machines because Cartwright was ignorant. He went bankrupt in 1793 and died in London on October 30,

    The adventurer Meriwether Lewis explored the west Louisiana territory. He came back efficacious and became a national hero until he died under suspicious circumstances on October 11, 1809.
