Edmonton Grads Analysis

This photo consists of the Edmonton Graduates, commonly known as the Edmonton Grads. They were a women’s basketball team in the 1920’s until the mid 1940’s and they originated in Edmonton, Alberta, hence the name. This photo was taken in 1923, after the Grads won the Underwood International Trophy. The team roster of 1923 was Dorothy and Daisy Johnson, Noel Robertson, Winnie Martin, Eleanor Mountifield, Nellie Perry and Connie Smith. The head coach of the Edmonton Grads was J. Percy Page, originally a teacher at McDougall High School. This photo consists of Canada’s Women’s National Basketball Team who are the champions of FIBA 2015 Americas Women’s Championship. The Edmonton Grads photo looks more sophisticated since the players were mostly likely posing for a photographer professionally. However, one could imagine the pride and accomplishment that not only themselves, but everyone who supported them is feeling. Likewise, the national Canadian team looks to be feeling the same way in their photo after have just winning the FIBA 2015 Championships. You are able to see large smiles on the player’s face and the fans in the background holding the Canadian flag and cheering. Back in the twenties, you see women trying many new different things and evolving and moving forward from the old, traditional ways. Basketball was not an olympic sport for women that time. Now, you see many different countries have national teams for different ages of women. Also you see different ethnicities in the photo of Canada’s National team, unlike in the Edmonton Grads photo, where all the players were white. They come together to play a sport that so many people love and it really brings a sense of pride to see Canadians showing support in their teams and having those teams come out on top and excel in doing what they
