In our fast growing, technology focused world, more and more people are using social media for communication, collaboration, discovering with others. Edmodo is a Learning Management System that focuses on the social network aspect of technology. The teacher is able to create a safe environment for students to talk to one another, share information, and explore the world around them. Not only are the students connected to one another, but they can facilitate and participate in discussions all over the globe, while being closely monitored by the instructor. Teachers are able to collaborate with other teachers around the world, as well as parents, and administrators. Edmodo is a way to help students “reach their full potential” through organization

If students are free to discuss topics, and make comments on other’s writing, they must make sure that there is no room for bullying. The teacher must make sure that students and their parents are aware of cyber bullying and that it will not be tolerated in and outside of school. Additionally, teachers need to make accommodations for blind students, finding a text-to-speech tool that can be used with Edmodo’s different features. All of student work is saved in their Google Drive, making their work easy to access and no chance of being lost among piles a paper. Both systems now have a way to grade assignments, communicate with parents, and create small groups for collaboration. Being fairly new with a release date in 2014, Google Classroom falls behind on teacher to teacher collaboration (“Google Classroom”, n.d.).
