Editing Reflection: Comparing and Contrasting Experiences

This editing assignment has taught me a lot about my own quality of writing. It was very interesting to edit one of my classmates’ papers, to get a sense of what their writing style is like and learn about my own writing style, through comparing and contrasting our papers: what works, and what aspects need adjusting in future papers. I recognized the importance of headings and simple APA components, as it makes it that much easier to follow along, while understanding what is going to be discussed, and what is coming up next. The paper I edited, did not have any headings so I was very confused a majority of the time, which created some challenges throughout the editing process. Overall, I noticed that our writing styles were very different from one another; however, there were some word choices and sentence structure techniques that I will be sure to implement into my own writing.

I knew to some degree the impact fashion culture and trends had on the members of the LGBTQ community, but only to some extent. I found it particularly interesting and saddening at that, learning about the hardships that the LGBTQ individuals experience still to this day, especially when it comes to the fashion industry. Additionally, I knew discrimination and unjust behaviour was still prominent in today’s society on a global level, however was not aware that it is still so severe in Russia. Self blame and moral suffering due to the government’s harsh regulations is absolutely absurd (Soboleva & Bakhmetjev, 2015). It is so terrible to see and read about, and I cannot begin to imagine the internalized impacts that society truly has on individuals who are perceived as indifferent, due to their sexual identity and preferences- it is so
