One of the best well known American writer and literary critic Edgar Allan Poe's The System of Dr. Tarr and Prof Fether was published in 1856. It's a tale about an unnamed narrator makes a journey along with his companion to the asylum known as the Maison de Sante. Before leaving, the narrator’s partner introduces him to Monsieur Maillard, the director of the institution. The narrator is shown around and is invited to dinner. At dinner, things felt and seemed abnormal. Bizarre dishes are served, and the guests are dressed in unfitting clothing. A typical conversation among the table leads to the guest acting out of place when they began to describe and demonstrate the delusions of the patients.
