I lied face down on the bed, waiting for the next memory that awaits me. The Giver put his hands on my back. Before I could take breath, I was transported into another memory. I suddenly felt warmer. I was not wearing a shirt, and my pants only touched my knees. I was bare. I wasn’t naked, but it still felt like it was against the rules to be wearing these ridiculous shorts. I look down at my bare feet to see a warm, cool feeling of something on them. The brown, grainy ground stretched for miles and miles, till I couldn’t even see what was beyond it. It was soft, but hard at the same time. Sand

They weren’t normal ordinary trees. They had long leaves and a thin tree trunk. They looked majestic and beautiful. Palm Trees. I saw white moving creatures flying in the air. They would come towards the water then fly up again. Birds I start going towards the clear water. I stood on the wet squishy sand, inches away from a wave hitting my feet. I listened to the waves crashing up against the shore. I shut out all the other noises and listened to the rhythmic relaxing sound. I start to go into the water. My foot hit the warm water, and the feeling of serenity overpowers me. Each step in the water is better than the first. The cool water, and the hot sun made it the perfect temperature. I was in the water waist deep. I look down at the clear water still being able to see my pale feet. Suddenly, something flys past my feet. Then again. I suddenly notice all around me a community of creatures. Instead of being scared, I was interested. The creatures were all different shapes, colors, and sizes. All uniquely fascinating and beautiful. It was amazing to see them making a life underwater. …show more content…
I see people riding waves on an oval type structure. There was emotion all around me: joy, happiness, and laughter. The nature of this place was exhilarating. All the things around me, was so new. It was like getting your job assignment at The Ceremony of 12.
While I’m in the ocean, I go under the cool water. I start to sink under and under until not one hair on the top of my head is dry. I suddenly woke up, confused and joyful at the same time.
“Giver, why don’t we have all those things,” I said
He replied, “ Our community has sameness, no one is allowed to feel emotion. That nature will make us different and happy, something the community never wants.”
“ But Giver, everything here is so boring. There’s no real nature. Nothing blows in the wind, like trees. There's no living things other than humans. We can’t experience new things, if were never exposed to it in the first place. There’s no free time to have fun and feel joy. Everything here so concrete, the community can’t deal with anything unexpected. I hate it, I hate it, I hate it.”
“ Sorry Jonas, thats the way the community works.”
I lie back down, awaiting the next memory, all the happiness I just felt,

A theme in a novel often reveals the author's opinions on life and one does not simply have one opinion on one subject, throughout their whole life. In The Giver their are many themes that give the book depth and meaning, that the book woulld be boring without. A few of these themes are more important than others.…
