While Poe had some of the symptoms of rabies, he didn’t show some of the other signs like “itching and other sensations that could affect the entire limb or side of the body” with also no evidence of Poe even being bitten. No one said specifically that he wasn’t drunk either. With instances of being violent when drunk and promising his wife and mother-in-law to stop, it takes time to eventually quit for good.
