Edgar Allan Poe was born on Jan 19, 1809, and in Boston, Massachusetts. His father left him at an early age, and his mother died of tuberculosis when he was only three years old. His adoptive father and mother treated him well enough as a child. His mother showered him with affection, and his father taught him many manners and customs.
