Edgar Allan Poe's Influence On The Raven

Shel Silverstein was an American cartoonist, playwright, performer, recording artist and poet. He was born in Chicago, in 1930, during the Great Depression. His first few years of life were hard. His family often had only one-day-old bread and a few pastries to eat from his father’s bakery. His family lived with other family members in a crowded house. He was not the best student at school until he attended Roosevelt University, where his English teacher, who noticed his artistic writing skills, influenced him. Shel was drafted for the Korean War before he could complete his studies at Roosevelt University. In the military, he would draw cartoons for the military paper.

He never lived in one place. He had cottages, apartments, and houseboats in different locations. He died of a heart attack at his home in Key West, Florida in 1999.
