II. Poe writes the entire short story “The Black Cat” from the narrator’s point of view while he is trying to convince people that he is not a madman for what he has done. He starts the short story off by writing about how he does not expect for people to believe what they are reading. The narrator goes on to write about how he is not mad when he writes, “Yet, mad am I not-and very surely do I not dream”. He then goes on to talk about how he will not live tomorrow because he is on death row. The narrator wants to write his story to try and ease or to unburden his mind and or soul because it is eating him alive to not tell his side of the story on what happened. The narrator also tells the readers about some of …show more content…
The next paragraph Poe is describing from the narrator’s point of view is after the man has had a night out on the town. The narrator writes about when he comes home after he has had a night out on the town having a good time with his disease. He writes that his cat is trying to avoid him because he has made his cat scared of him after he has been maltreating him. The narrator knows why the Pluto is avoiding him, but he does not care because he is drunk. The man then goes on to write about when he took his cat Pluto and cut his eye all because he is mad that Pluto is trying to avoid him. This right here shows that the man is crazy because he goes to town and then comes home drunk as a skunk. Then once he notices that Pluto is trying to avoid him he gets mad and does something that is uncalled …show more content…
The eighth paragraph Poe is writing from the man’s point of view talking about Pluto and how he cannot live with what he has done to the cat. The narrator writes about the cats socket when the writes, “the socket of the lost eye presented, it is true, a frightful appearance, but he no longer appeared to suffer any pain”. When he writes this, he means that cat’s eye socket looks really nasty but the cat is not in any pain because it is getting around like normal now. This does not really show if he is glad the cat is not in pain anymore or not. The man then goes on to write about how he is not sure if his soul lives inside of his body anymore at this time. The next thing that the narrator writes about is how other people have also broken laws. When the narrator is doing this he is trying to justify that what he did was no big deal. He seemed to be trying to convince himself that he had not done anything wrong. The man then goes on to write about how hung Pluto in the tree in his front yard because he could not handle it anymore. This shows that the man is crazy because first he cut out his own cat’s eye. Then he hangs his dearly beloved cat in a tree because he could it has not given his any reason to be mad at it or to hate it. The narrator is crazy and or mad because he kills his favorite pet only because it has not given him a reason to hate it.
IX. The next paragraph Poe writes about what happened to the man when his house caught on fire. The narrator writes about the
