A bit of looking into the poem it is found that Poe first titled this poem as Irene maybe that is the name of the woman of which our speaker is talking about. It also sees that he would rather pretend that this woman he is writing about it asleep. Which we see in the multiple times he mentions that she is obviously just asleep, almost as if to reassure himself that is all it is.
