Edgar Allan Poe was a famous poet who was known for his creepy, dark and mysterious writing.
What most people do not know is that his poetry was based on the true and very tragic life events he endured. Poe was born on January 19, 1908 in Boston, Massachusetts to his parents David and Eliza Poe. Poe grew up with a fiery passion for poetry which could not be tamed even though his father was not too fond of Poe's literature desire. Poe's father longed for him to become a polite and well-known business man, but Poe's dream was to be just like his hero, Lord Byron, a British poet. Soon it became time for Poe to go to university, so John Allan sent him on his way with enough funds to get through university, or so Poe thought. What Poe found out once he got to university was that he did not have enough money to finish his whole year at college. This caused him to start gambling. He started to loose copious amounts of money and had to burn the furniture in his room to provide himself with warmth in the winter.
