Allan and Poe's relationship had always been strained, but upon his return the tension heightened. After a huge fight that ends in him leaving he publishes his first book Tamerlane at eighteen. When he departed the house he swore to be a great poet and by the looks of it he was proving himself right until he enlisted in the army. His early life was a struggle between what was expected of him and what he desperately wanted to do, write. Young edgar’s poetry could be found scrawled on the back of tobacco receipts. He had tried to forge out into the world and been turned away. He crafted his skill in his early life on the bitterness that was left inside of him.
