Imagine just graduating high school and moving to Hollywood to become successful from your music. This occurred to Eddie in Tom Petty’s “Into the Great Wide Open.” Eddie graduates high school and moves to Hollywood to earn fame and fortune. He meets a girl, gets a tattoo, and has big dreams for his future. “Into the Great Wide Open” by Tom Petty tells the story of a man with ambition to become successful, and quickly shifts tones, in a very believable way. “Into the Great Wide Open” Gives details of the ambition of a man to become successful. Eddie had just finished high school and moved to Hollywood, met a girl, and got a tattoo. Eddie and his girlfriend moved into a place, Eddie became a bouncer at a nightclub, and Eddie’s girlfriend taught him to play guitar.

Eddie had made a choice to move to Hollywood at 18 and do what he likes. This girl that he met might not be his girlfriend but maybe just a roommate. Eddie, as only an 18 year old, could be acting childish so all of the events he experiences would happen due to his childishness. He is only 18 and he has so much money, he would want to spend a lot of it on useless things like an expensive leather jacket and lots of parties due to his childishness. Eddie is exhilarated when he gets to Hollywood so he gets a place to stay and probably can’t pay for it very well. He isn’t mature enough yet to be independent. He neglected his fame and fortune so much that he wasted so much of his money and wasted time he could have spent producing music.
