When I was 12, my father showed me the documentary, “ESPN:20 for 20-Hawaiian; The Legend of Eddie Aikau.” This documentary opened up a whole different world to me. I was never the type of typical person who enjoyed to surf, unlike half of the people in Hawaii. As being a Big Island grown girl, I liked to bodyboard rather than surf. Surfing is more of an O’ahu kind of sport. This documentary showed me more of this sport. It showed me how fantastic it can be. Eddie Aikau’s face in the documentary when riding those waves changed my mind about surfing. Eddie had loved to surf and through this documentary, he made me become more fond of it than ever. He especially inspired me to be strong even in the toughest times in life. Through this documentary, I had many different emotions. He lived with his family in a very small house. They loved one another and they would always celebrate each day. They worked hard at their jobs but would come home to their family and cherish their time together. I found that very special to me. The may have had that life, but they still lived to the fullest which is the best thing to do in any situation. Eddie Aikau worked really hard and committed to his work. He’s vigorous with any kind of problem that comes at him. He inspired me to work hard like he did. Work hard to have a better future than

I believe a movie based on Finney’s story would not be as effective as the story itself because it is mainly about Tom, the main character, thinking to himself. The short story does not incorporate much speaking and dialogue. As stated in the Contents of the Dead Man’s Pocket, it read, “He wished, then, that he had not allowed his wife to go off by herself tonight--- and on similar nights.” Thus, if this part was ever made into a film, the audience will never know Tom Benecke’s remorse for how he spent his life unless the movie was changed somehow.…

"Wanted" is basically from a comic book that has limited series written by Mark Miller and J.G Jones, it is about an amoral protagonist (Wesley Gibson) who is discovered as the heir of super assassin. Russian director, Timur Bekmambetov, he is the cream of the crop, he turns this comic into a movie that make the viewers not sit still and make their adrenaline and cortisone levels spike with the actions. Bekmambetov used the similar style of shots and angles with his previous movie, Night watch. It's more to wide angle (long shot), so we can see the terrifying background like one of the scenes in the torture room, where Wes has been beaten up by the butcher. Not even that, there are many special effects that Bekmambetov applies in this movie, like slow-motion with sound effects that certainly provides that "ouch" reaction from audiences.…

The dog movie “The Champions” I found to be a touching and profoundly dramatic film about the pit bulls rescued from the brutal fighting ring of former Atlanta Falcon’s star quarterback Michael Vick. It chronicled those brave individuals that risk it all to save them, overcoming much pressure from PETA and the Humane Society to euthanize them. The film successfully exposed the prejudice and much misunderstanding while slowly eradicating the myths surrounding this breed. The documentary unfolds the journey of five of the dogs such as Handsome Dan, Jonny and Little Red to name a few, and their second chance on life and their supreme power of resilience and the true significance of the Human- Animal Bond. It features several rescue organizations such as Best Friends Animal Society of southern Utah, BADRAP centered in Oakland, California and individual families who reached out to these creatures with love and compassion.…

Native Hawaiian surfer, Bethany Hamilton, lived by the belief that, “ I can do all things through he who gives me strength”. This motivation as seen in this YouTube video, was necessary after an ordinary Halloween afternoon in 2003 when thirteen-year-old Bethany was surfing. She experienced the dreaded nightmare of the ocean, a shark attack. While the surf was slow and she was lying on her board, she felt an abrupt tug on her left arm. The ocean quickly turned red before she realized her arm was gone up to the shoulder.…

The Debut (2000) was a film presenting the positive aspects of the Filipino culture, using the real problems and relatable issues that teenagers face. This film is one of the first films I’ve viewed which portrays an Asian culture as what it truly is. Unlike many other films and scenes in Hollywood cinema, this film did not use negative stereotypes or derogatory topics as its main base. Director Gene Cajayon is from the Filipino agency and grew up in its heritage; this reflects on the films true use of Tagalog, traditions, relationships, and cultural values. What was particularly enjoyable was the scenes of dancing and singing that are accurate presentations of the Tinikling dance with string instruments.…

The movie “Arranged” is a drama-induced film with a powerful message of integrity that religious women uphold. Arranged is a film that displays traditions that are very important in a religious household, such as marriage. Coming from two completely different traditions, Rochel, an orthodox Jew, and Nasira, a dominant Muslim, come to realize that their process for marriage is very similar. I chose to do this assignment rather than the bus ride because once I read what the movie was about, I began to be very interested in learning how the process of marriage works in other religions besides my own. I recently got engaged so I was looking forward to comparing the processes from the two women in the story with my own experiences since I am looking…
