Child Behavior versus Eczema Behavior The study is about Child Behavior problems and childhood illness and the development of the Eczema Behavior Checklist. This study involves treatment-related behaviors, symptom-related behavior, and behavior related to the impact of the illness. It also includes the parents’ confidence with managing child behavior in the context of atopic dermatitis management.
Using the Eczema Behavior Checklist eligible parents were allowed to complete anonymous online questionnaire to report their child’s behavior. There were some inclusion criteria that the parents had to have a child aged 3-10 years of age with a medical diagnosis of atopic dermatitis and were able to read and understand English. Of this, there were 391 responses received from May 2011 to May 2012, but only 292 met the inclusion criteria.
In the end, this study proves that children with atopic dermatitis are at increased risk of having emotional and behavioral problems. Parents also have difficulty implementing the child’s management plan. It also shows evidence of the validity of the newly developed scale (Eczema Behavior Checklist) to access children’s behavior problems due to having atopic dermatitis. …show more content…
