I instantly fell to the sweaty gym floor and grabbed my knee. Many people gave their input on what they believed happened. A lot of them thought I dislocated my kneecap or tore my ACL, which scared me. Since nobody knew exactly what I did, I had to wait until the end of the day to see the trainer. …show more content…

The pain began slowly, pricking me with its sharp needles only while doing barre in ballet once a week. I ignored it, believing it to be normal, common discomfort that would soon go away, typical thoughts of a dancer whose entire sport is centered around “good pain”. Six months later, it had escalated to the degree that every step I took felt like an arrow to my knee. Dancing had become impossible, and it was determined that I should be taken to the orthopedist. I completely tore my Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL), a ligament that holds the Femur (the bone on top of the knee) and the Tibia (a bone below the knee); it controls reasonable movements and prevents forward movements of the Tibia. As a result, I received a traumatizing surgery on my knee causing my muscles to shut down; it felt as horrible as it sounds.
