A kind of tourism that not only helps the environment but is an entire different experience in itself. “Ecotourism: The Promise and Perils of Environmentally Oriented Travel” by Heather E. “Ecotourism is an opportunity to preserve ecosystems and biological diversity that would otherwise be lost”(314). Ecotourism has the ability to create awareness that starts a chain reaction to fix problems. One of the most successful story is the Maquipucuna Reserve in Ecuador which is 15,000 acre property run by a private foundation. There visitors have the opportunity to stay in ecolodges that are employed by local residents while appreciating the beauty of nature. Some of the famous attractions include: a pre-Incan archaeological site, orchid collection, and the famous Bear Festival. This ecolodge is located right next to a new scientific research station. All because of the efforts of ecotourism. Lindsay continues to explain the entry fees can go into programs to help further scientific knowledge for that particular area. Lindsay was overall effective. Lindsay persuaded through facts and explanations. She proved her points without being aggressively overbearing. She points out both the positive and negative effects of ecotourism while suggesting guidelines to help mild ecotourism to perfection. Although there are many positive outcomes of ecotourism there is also the cruel reality. Not all ecotourism sites are ecofriendly and involving the locals. If the right guidelines are practiced and set into motion, ecotourism could become a remarkably booming
