I have chosen to apply to the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, given my dream is to become a physicist. For my bachelor's degree, I wish to major in physics and minor in astronomy, thus making this particular college directly advantageous to my pursuits and interest. My fascination with science and the cosmos began at a very young age as I was always questioning the beliefs I was taught. Having been raised in an ultra-orthodox Jewish home, many of these beliefs contradicted with the reality of the cosmos presented by the scientific community. These issues were explained away however I had trouble believing many of the answers I was given as they seemed to lack common sense. An example of this was being told that the only two possible explanations …show more content…
This in no way diminished my scientific curiosity as it instead grew even stronger as the importance of having the knowledge of what the world around me was and how it worked was given significant importance in my upbringing. Thus, by discovering that I lacked the proper answer I grew more curious and inspired than ever before, to become a physicist, so I can study and learn more about the world I reside in. Given my interest in physics, the school I wish to attend is an obvious choice, however, the truth of this matter runs even deeper than the aforementioned reasons. As a human being I am influenced every day by the people I surround myself with and to be encompassed by people who share that same love for science and the universe can be a great opportunity for me to become further motivated and to not get sidetracked. Hopefully, I can then be influenced in a positive manner so that I can achieve my set goal so that I can earn a Ph.D. in physics and then study the universe in all its

The economics module has taught me that health care in America costs billions of dollars and some of these costs can be avoided, if executed correctly and if the mass majority stopped undergoing unnecessary treatments. This module made me angry, truthfully, because when I get older and try to retire there will be nothing for me to retire with, and health care will cost a fortune if I become ill. I had some understanding of people abusing “the system” and going on welfare and disability whenever the chance arose because I live in a low-income town, although, I was impacted personally when I read Unfit for Work. In my town we had a Burlington textile plant, from Burlington Coat Factory, however, the company went under and the majority of the…

My interest in physics was initially ignited during my sophomore year. I signed up for AP Physics 1, taught by a teacher in his first year, right out of college. His main goal was to encourage students to apply physics to the world around them and identify the relevancy of the course material. I was immediately hooked and I bought book after book about Einstein's Theory of Relativity, the Big Bang, and quantum mechanics. I was eager to learn as much as I could; in doing so, I realized that working in a laboratory setting, conducting experiments and applying equations, is something that I am truly passionate about.…

Chad Blenz Econ 101, Written Report 19 April 2015 There are multiple factors that make measuring inequality difficult. Such as In-Kind Transfers, which are known as nonmonetary items such as, food stamps, housing vouchers, and medical services that are provided for the poor. Standard measurements of the degree of inequality do not take account of these in-kind transfers, which are relied on by the poorest individuals in our society, and without these in-kind transfers as part of income, there is a huge consequence on the measured poverty rate. Another factor that we must keep in mind when measuring inequality is the economic life cycle.…

When I was in Haiti, I remember sitting in class thinking about how much I love biology and chemistry. Among the responses from the 125 undergraduates, an overwhelming amount of them cited Scientific Evidence as the main reason why they believed in the existence of entities they cannot personally observe. Within this group of responses, some were simplistic and direct, while others used examples that trace back to scientific evidence as the main justification. Regardless of how simplistic or complex the response was, the underlying similarity among these responses is the adherence to the plausibility of science. Some undergraduates directly stated “scientific evidence” as the justification, while others referred to their education through their teachers, classes, and textbooks as a form of justification. One common justification was citing pictures as a form of…

Motivation to Pursue Science: From the time that I was in the fourth grade, I knew the career path that I wanted to pursue. At a young age, I was inspired by roller coasters, so much in fact that I was often get scolded for doodling them in my notebooks during class time. I think that a lot of my inspiration had to do with my mother because I will never forget the morning that she woke me up to go to Hershey Park. My whole family was “playing hooky” that day and she had such excitement in her voice when she was waking me up to tell me about the Wild Cat, which is a wooden rollercoaster in the park.…
