With global exploitation levels of this resource being at less the 2% of the actual potential the resource actually bears, it would be accurate to say that man is sitting on an energy goldmine and yet he refuses to acknowledge and pursue this. To demonstrate this, the earth is hit by 100,000 trillion watts of solar energy daily; this represents around 6000 times the daily average energy consumed by humans (Hans 67). Yet, it has been argued that it is significantly expensive to venture into solar energy due to high capital cost in investment on solar energy tapping equipment, the benefits clearly overshadow the cost. Because there are no toxic emissions or waste involved in the harnessing of solar energy, it can be considered among one of the cleanest forms of alternative energy; in view of this, alternative energy will not burden mankind with environmental damage concerns. Furthermore, solar energy generation has minimal occupational hazards during its production in contrast to fossil fuel exploitation that is strewn with hazards from freak fires, oil - drilling disasters among a host of other …show more content…
Not a new concept, wind energy generation using wind turbines developed from the windmill concept which has been in the past used for a variety of activities such as water pumping, grain grounding among other uses. Currently, the estimated potential that wind energy has is almost ten times the current electricity consumption of the entire U.S.A. In view of this, with a strategic and well thought out plan; wind energy can relieve the reliance on fossil fuels not only in America, but the whole world in general. Wind energy is clean; as a result, it does not have a huge environmental impact and does not consume any natural resource such as water in its production, so it has a low overhead in harnessing (Hans 79). Moreover, the land in between the wind turbines can be used in farming or any alternative beneficial activity such as alternative energy generation using solar cell installations; consequently, making wind farming quite space
