Saudi Arabia: A Petroleum Super Power and Strategically Placed Ally The gulf state of Saudi Arabia has built a booming petroleum-based economy with a strategic location of high importance to the United States and her interest. Saudi Arabia has the strongest economy on the Arabian Peninsula. Its investments in the PATRIOT missile system have catapulted them to the top slot of valuable allies that the United States has in the region. The strong cultural history of Saudi Arabia has helped shape their free trade economy and is the reason for their dominance over the Middle Eastern-North African region for foreign investments. Saudi Arabia is the Middle Eastern-North Africa’s number one destination for foreign investment. Saudi Arabia’s massive size covers up to eighty percent of the entire Arabian Peninsula. Its size contributes to the amount of natural resources it possesses. Along with raw materials, Saudi Arabia has the energy needed for manufacturing and industrial development, where other countries run short on resources and raise prices; Saudi Arabia prospers and benefits economies worldwide. With the fortune Saudi Arabia has accumulated they have been able to build quite a strong military force, which happens to be the strongest in the entire Arab world. Since Saudi Arabia has become the central power in the Arab world, this last remaining heavy weight is solely responsible for the entire regions stability and development. The geographical region of Saudi Arabia puts them dangerously close to the major adversaries that the United States faces. Saudi Arabia provides a major line of defense not only to the Middle Eastern region but to Northern Africa as well. The United States having a foothold in Saudi Arabia gives us a tactical advantage over the major threats we face such as Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, and the major terrorist group that terrorizes the United States and its allies, called ISIS. That being said, Saudi Arabia has more to show for themselves after decades of hard work and cultural understanding, they have one of the overall strongest economies in the Middle East, making them an irreplaceable economic partner to the United States of America. With Saudi Arabia being a very advantageous economic partner, their wealth has created them a very strong military with an advanced Air Defense system. The strength of Saudi Arabia’s military makes them the top ally for the United States of America in the Middle East. Saudi Arabia has also paved the way for the United States to understand the importance of culture, as well as, religion in the Middle Eastern region. These reasons along with many more are why Saudi Arabia is becoming not just an economic world power but a military world power as well.
