As stated by Treasury Secretary George M. Humphrey’s before a House Subcommittee in 1955, a new highway system will be created in order to strengthen the economic ties between American cities and act as a defensive measures in case of war(Document 5). In Humphrey’s address, he wants the House Subcommittee to know the positive implications that the highway transportation system will bring to the American economy in which the transportation efficiency will lead to an economic gain. In specifically, the Eisenhower Interstate system was one of the largest public works projects in history in which President Eisenhower to build a transportation network across the United States in order to economically tie the cities of America together. During the height of the Cold War, 1960s Federal Budget greatly increased in which the government was using the increased budget in order to create employment in the country. The National Defense Education Act of 1958 is establishes to the American public that the education system of America must be developed in order for there to be a highly skilled and technical workforce in order to meet up with industrial demands of the Cold War. With the establishment of the Act, the America economical society was impacted in which the economy grew tremendously due to the industrial and technological development which was made efficient by the newly trained workers. This phenomenon was seen specifically with the creation of National Aeronautical and Space Administration(NASA) in which NASA led a technological advancement in aeronautics which the workforce was highly trained due to an advanced education system leading to an affluent society in terms of economics.
