Ecology Action Plan

Improved Essays
For my Ecology Action Project, I will go to the Morongo Preserve for National Public Lands Day to landscape the area. The area requires weeds to be pulled and for overgrown trails to be restored. Several classmates and I will attend the event in the Morongo Preserve. The event is open to the public and will last from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm on September 30th. My participation will better the environment of the preserve.

This project will help preserve the area in the Morongo Preserve. Other volunteers and I will pull invasive species of weeds in the preserve. The weeds prevent the native species of plants in the area to thrive. Weeds soak up all the water that may be provided to any of the native species of plants in the weeds’ surrounding area.

When working in an environment like the Morongo Preserve, a lot of the stress brought on from school is relieved. It is proven by several studies that spending time in the sun and working outside can reduce levels of stress. It is also nice to take a break from traditional schoolwork to work on something that benefits the environment.

There are a few problems associated with this project that I will need to solve. One problem I may face is transportation. I can get a ride from my parents, but if something comes up like a family event I may not be able to make it. This problem can be solved simply if I plan ahead and even plan for someone in my class to carpool with in case I can’t get a ride from my parents. I also need to speak with my boss so I can get a day off on September 30th.

When working outside in the sun, there are going to be some safety issues. A major issue is dehydration; I will bring adequate amounts of water and make sure I constantly drink it to prevent this. I will also work with weeds so I need to bring a pair of gloves to prevent getting cut or getting blisters. I also need to bring the right shoes that will not come off easily and can protect my feet from anything on the ground. By following these procedures I can have a fun and safe time working in the
