Sandra is a 65-year-old retiree looking forward to enjoying her sunset days. The former elementary teacher for 33 years desires to travel the world and volunteer. However, her desire is curtailed by her sick husband whom she has to often take care of. Sandra’s children have long matured and have their own families. Benedito has all along been so abusive especially when drunk and this also contributed to the children moving out. Sandra ponders over putting her husband in a nursing home, seeking a divorce or merely wishing he dies. Sandra is evidently frustrated, and she feels that her many years of hard work are wasting away.

Further, she now feels she has turned into a nanny after working hard professionally instead of enjoying her life. Sandra desires to travel the world and volunteer, and her husband seems to be holding her down which brings her stress.
The stress theory introduces the stress adaptation syndrome that would be present in Sandra (Cooper, 2017). If Sandra is not proactive, she may end up handling more stress and hence get ill. Sandra should seek help from a close family member or a professional to take care of her husband. Having a caretaker would, therefore, give her a clean conscience because she has not neglected her husband. On the other hand, it would allow her to fulfill her desires which will enable her to live a long fruitful and a happy life.
Contacting her family members would indeed be prudent for Sandra. The retiree seems to be overwhelmed by taking care of her ailing husband, and she has no one to confide in. Sandra’s children evidently despise their father hence would not be willing to offer any help. Involving the family members would, however, reduce the stress and if the children showed love to the father, he would improve and need less
