In Matthew 6: 19-34 Jesus reinforces the importance of putting God above material possessions. Trying to getting wealthy as a source of satisfaction causes misery not only because it is stressful and yields no real value but because, for Christians, it causes separation from God. Jesus understood that we do not need to worry about what we own because it is not the focus of our lives. If we seek heavenly valuables like faith, love, selflessness and a fully relationship with Him, God will make sure that we get the physical things because he know that we need them. As Eccles 5:18-20 says, rather than working for ourselves and taking comfort in what we get, we should work for God and take Joy in what He gives us. Jesus stated it plainly, “You cannot serve both God and money.” That is the unfortunate true about consumerism: people will let themselves be ruled by their money; something which, quite literally, could not care less about them. Money is a tool. Tools can be very helpful but you would never swear your loyalty and service to a wrench. Rather than serving money and trying to use God to satisfy our greed we should serve God and use money to serve His purposes and each
