In this portion of my educational training, I learn how to assess the validity of research studies. I learned how to be an independent judge of the information, and the methods researcher use to obtain information. Nursing has always centered on the science of and art of compassionately providing care for those under our care, to do no harm. As medicine evolves and there is increased use of technology, we as nurses will also be required to grow. We will need to change and adapt how we practice and

Many of them did not meet the standards of relevancy or believability. Many of the items in the primary search were not peer reviewed or were not relevant to my topic. Using the tools, I had learned throughout the course, and I was able to choose research that was relevant and of high quality.
Task one showed the process used to assess the validity of a research paper. Using the steps of 1) Background. 2) Review. 3)Methodology. 4)Data Analysis. 5) Researches Conclusions 6) Strengths and limitations of the research. Following the six steps allowed for easy assessment of the information with a research article.
I now look at research differently. I now have tools as to what is a systematic review or meta-analysis and how this highest level or evidence compares to other levels. The other study levels including randomized controlled trials. I now understand the differences between a quantitative or qualitative study. The knowledge I have gained lets me determine the research study author has valid conclusions. How to look for a conflict of interest and how to determine whether findings apply to my clinical

Determining the strength of a nursing research study is a critical process that enhances the implementation of evidence-based practice. Determining the strength of a nursing research study ensures that the empirical knowledge developed through nursing research is useful in improving nursing care, the system of healthcare delivery, and patient outcomes. Additionally, nurses should use research findings when making clinical decisions on the best practice to use in order to deliver healthcare services that ensure all the patients receive safe and quality care (Melnyk et al. 2014). Therefore, determining the strength of a nursing research study helps to ensure the evidence is credible (valid and reliable) and is appropriate if incorporated into clinical practice.…

The purpose of evidence-based practice is to use the best available evidence when making patient-care decisions. In other words, when we encounter certain situations when providing care to our patients, there will be several different ways of solving the problem; as nurses, we must use to best one to arrive at the best possible outcomes. One important distinction between research and evidence-based practice is that evidence-based practice takes into account the patient 's preferences for interventions(Fitzpatrick, 2016).…
