“Ebola is a rather simple virus- as simple as a firestorm. It kills humans with efficiency and with a devastating range of effects.” (Preston. R. 1994, New York.) The quote is from the book The Hot Zone Richard Preston and the ebola virus is kinda like Scfi in my mind. When you think of Scifi you think of awful scary things that could wipe out the whole human population. Thats what ebola is, but its real. Science fiction or Scfi is something that is fictional that uses future technological advances or changes to the environment. I have learned many things about Scifi and writing techniques that talk about Scifi from the movie Unbreakable, the book The Hot Zone written by Richard Preston, and the transcript from World War Z.
First off the movie Unbreakable is a good example of Scifi because it brings something impossible right now and make it seem real, and makes you believe it could be real. In the move there is this man named David, and he discovers he is “unbreakable” then uses that power he has for good by saving people from trouble. They said the zombies would freeze and die in the cold. Thats what they thought, but they were wrong. He leaves you hanging in the end. You have no idea whats gonna happen next. He uses setting to put an image in your mind of whats its like. When he said, “ the natural beauty has been replaced by wreckage: abandoned vehicles, debris, and human corpses remain partially frozen into the gray snow and ice.” (Brooks, 2006) Also he uses the characters to bring the story to life by giving examples oh how they were surviving. They found a cluster of people and called out and shared supplies. Then all the supplies ran
