There are various ways Ebola virus can be transmitted from host to host. The natural reservoir hosts of Ebola viruses have still have not been identified, but there are some theories behind the original source (Leroy 2005). Studies have shown that bats might be the reservoir for many Ebola or Ebola-like viruses. Reports have suggested that bats under the Chiroptra are the primary natural hosts (Kevin 2013). These are the following bats that could be the potential reservoir of Ebola: Rhinolophus and Miniopterus, and Pteropodidae (Kevin 2013). Studies suggest that fruit bats of the genus Rousettus have been the main reservoir in Africa and the Philippines (Kevin 2013). Not only are bats a possible reservoir, plants, birds, and arthropods have also been considered for possible viral reservoirs, but also till this day there is not an official reservoir that is known for the Ebola virus. The first person to get infected by this virus must have spread it to other humans by human-to-human transmission, which the person must have received it from a fruit bat or an ape. Ever since the recent outbreak of the Ebola virus infections, there have been many questions about the understanding of how this virus is transmitted, because it is not yet fully …show more content…
The virus is considered an important public health pathogen and a biothreat pathogen of category A, because of the serious fatal symptoms it comes with. This virus does not have any known cure yet nor is there a licensed vaccine for patients and that is why it is crucially important that this disease is strictly controlled and prevented in hospital care settings and that health care workers as well as society are educated in ways to prevent from being infected from an individual who has Ebola. There are many studies and experiments that are being conducted by various researches to try to find treatment for the disease and there are many potential vaccines that could possibly be used for humans as well as therapeutic ways of killing the virus, but as of right now these tests have only been done on animals and there has not been human trials yet, because of how severe this virus is, that it is quite not safe to start testing patients. With further experiments that will take place there is a high chance that in the future there will be a cure for Ebola, but for now the only hope is to keep testing and analyzing the viruses
