At the beginning of the story, Ebenezer Scrooge is a greedy, rude man. On pages 17 and 18 he refuses to donate any of his money (Which he has plenty of) to the poor. On page 20 a caroller comes to his door and Scrooge makes them run away. On page 15 he refuses his own nephew’s Christmas meal invitation. Finally, he has told his nephew that, “Every idiot who goes about with ‘Merry Christmas’ on his lips should be boiled in his own pudding, and buried with a stake of holly through his heart.
