The mental health of our children is a natural concern for both teachers and parents. Many mental disorders have their beginnings in the adolescent years, if not during childhood. Students with Emotional and Behavioral Disorders (EBD) face serious challenges at home and in the classroom. EBD students are often characterized by their disruptive social behaviors, and exhibit poorer attendance and higher dropout rates than their peers in the general education population. Students with EBD commonly lack impulse control and emotional balance, both of which are necessary for effective social interactions with other students. While working with EBD students is challenging, it helps to understand that there are specific strategies educators (and families)
