Anorexia Nervosa is generally characterized as self-induced, inadequate, or absence of food intake. The side effects of anorexia are a low body weight, osteoporosis or bone weakness, low heart rate and blood pressure, dehydration leading to kidney failure, dry skin, hair loss, spontaneous vomiting, and amenorrhea. When the body is deprived of food the heart muscle to change causing heart rate and blood pressure to drop. Amenorrhea is also caused by food deprivation. Amenorrhea has two stages. Stage one is when the menstrual cycle never occurs. The second stage is when the menstrual cycle stops after having it before. Bulimia involves two steps, bingeing and purging. Bingeing is when a person consumes large amount of food no matter what their body is telling them. Purging is self-induced vomiting, this is thought of as compensation. This causes many issues with the mouth and digestive system. These include swelling of the cheeks or jaw, teeth discoloration and decay, inflammation and possible rupture of the esophagus, constipation and irregular bowel movements, and an electrolyte imbalance.
