Eating disorder is a type of illness where serious issues affect your everyday diet whether it will make you eat less or extremely more. This illness can occur through by genetic, biological, behavioral, psychological, and social factors. According to The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), common eating disorders include anorexia nervosa (AN), bulimia nervosa (BN), and binge-eating disorder (BED). Harvard Medical School, Department of Health Care also conducted recent studies showing that, “Country-specific lifetime prevalence estimates are consistently (median; interquartile range) higher for BED (1.4%; .8–1.9%) than BN (.8%; .4–1.0%). Median age of onset is in the late teens to early 20s for both disorders but slightly younger for BN. Persistence is slightly higher for BN (6.5 years; 2.2–15.4) than BED (4.3 years; 1.0–11.7).” Basically that binge eating disorder represents a public health problem at least equal to bulimia nervosa. These disorders can harm the heart, the digestive system, bones, teeth and mouth, and can lead to other diseases. Fortunately, with treatment, your healthy eating habits will be restored. This can also lead to preventing and removing the life threatening problems caused by the eating disorder, according to the Mayo Clinic Organization.
