This lends an ominous air to the scene, as the reader cannot

Blame the Eater The childhood obesity epidemic within the United States has many sides, you have the three main groups that the blame is usually placed on: the consumer, the producer, and the government. One person may say the consumer is at fault because of their lack of self-control, they could have stopped eating at any time, or they didn’t have to eat at the greasy and unhealthy fast food restaurants every day of the week. Another might argue that the producers are at fault because instead of advertising healthy menu items like salads or fruit cups they advertise their very cheap hamburgers and fries, or instead of worrying about the effects their products may have on the consumer and how they can prevent their customers from becoming overweight they are worried about…

Another use of foreshadowing is when the townspeople talk of the putrid smell coming from Emily’s house. They ignore this smell and blame it on rodents. However, if the story were read from back to front, readers would know this smell is a result of the dead body rotting in Emily’s house. Through the use of these literary devices, Faulkner is able to draw more closely to the reader’s…

The author shows how poor people can be to others and how people shouldn’t worry about what they say because they at least can say they are a better person. I like this quote because it lets other people know that people will talk about anyone, saying how much they don’t like a specific person or just trying to start mess. When people talk about me, I always just think to myself and say, “They wish they were me.” I’ve had people talk about me for many reasons. One reason is they had people talking about me because they say I had a bad attitude towards others.…

This shows that the main character is remaining in a general area to collect his thoughts of fear and disgust after the encounter with the monster. In addition, Ann Radcliffe utilized the theme of fear through the literary device of setting which can be seen by the quotation from Udolpho which states, “The gloom of these shades, their solitary silence, except when the breeze swept over their summits, the tremendous precipices of the mountains, that came partially to the eye, each assisted to raise the solemnity of Emily’s feelings into awe; she saw only images of gloomy grandeur, or of dreadful sublimity, around her; other images, equally gloomy and equally terrible, gleamed on her imagination.” The first few words that stood out to me was, “solitary silence” which shows the character being in an intensely quiet place with no one around. This allows the reader and the character to show signs of fear through the landscape or setting. Radcliff also states, “only images of gloomy grandeur, or of…
