It has been estimated that approximately 99% of livestock are raised in factory farms, where comfort for the animal is not remotely close to being the top priority (What is a Factory Farm?). These animals live in compact spaces where they can hardly move or ever experience the outdoors. According to the ASPCA, these animals deal with unclean air, artificial twenty-four hour lighting that speeds growth, synthetic growth hormones, non-therapeutic medications, unnatural reproduction, no appropriate veterinary care, surgical mutilations, and live shortened lives as most of the animals become “market weight” as babies (What is a Factory Farm?). Simply inhumane, these animals undergo agony and affliction all to put meat in unaware and ignorant people’s stomachs. As animals bear tribulation, people spend all day wondering when they will gorge on their next Big Mac without the slightest inclination of all the suffering that cow endured to simply transport it to McDonald’s.
