First, the environment can get stressed when a dense population of people constantly and quickly use up its resources. Eventually that environment will stop producing resources fast enough or stop completely. This harms the civilization that currently lives there and all the other creatures that live there as well. Quality of life in that area decreases, causing people to maybe die of starvation or to have to move to a different environment. A good historical example of this is Easter Island. I think this is mostly because of specialization, which allows for others to specialize in specific jobs. Some jobs can be seen as more important or powerful than others, which may create some kind of social inequality, but it also creates economic inequality since the people who have more important skills will receive more compensation or benefits for their work or service. For example, a person who specializes in surgery is seen as more important to society because they can save lives and therefore makes more money and reward for their rare and important skill than a bank teller does.
